Anyone who has experience with Autistic young adults and would like to offer some time to do an activity with the residents can contact us and the House Manager will liaise with them.

Hurdy Gurdy House is in need of repair and some tender loving care. Below is a list of items desired to restore a sense of pride to the home. Financial donations are always welcome but individuals, groups like Rotary or schools/churches/clubs could assist by undertaking a project. Nurseries, paving companies, vibracrete, kitchen companies could all play a meaningful role in raising the standard of the home.

House:

The house needs painting outside and roof fascia boards need replacing. Windows and doors are also rotting and ideally need replacing. The kitchen is a priority which needs to be fitted with stainless steel units as in similar establishments. Wall and floor tiles are also needed. Two bathrooms, guest toilet, and the large kitchen and pantry need a makeover. The outer building has one bedroom/bathroom which needs total revamp.

Therapy:

A converted double garage currently serves as a Therapy Room. Occupational therapists in a voluntary capacity would be most welcome to oversee and implement programmes to keep the residents stimulated. Therapy equipment is also needed.

Food:

Any company who can donate any items be it fresh produce, meat, chicken, cleaning materials etc will all assist in reducing our costs.

Health:

Due to lack of transport and challenging behaviour of our residents, it is difficult to take them to the dentist for check ups and cleaning of teeth. A dentist would be welcome to visit occasionally. The services of a doctor just for check ups would also be appreciated. Some residents are unable to communicate and routine checking of ears etc would alleviate the pain they often incur as a result of not being able to speak.

Recreation/Pool:

The pool provides most of the summertime recreation. Wooden climbing apparatus as in Jungle Gyms is also desired. The gunite pool needs fibreglass lining. Most of our residents love books and magazines. If anyone has contacts for old copies they would be more than welcome.

Fences:

For security of our residents, the vibracrete fence at the front  needs to be extended.
